Warhammer: The Old World

Warhammer: The Old World is an epic, large-scale fantasy tabletop miniatures game produced by Games Workshop and rereleased in early 2024. It is a nostalgia project that revives and updates the rules and extensive lore of the classic Warhammer Fantasy Battles, which was discontinued in 2015. The game is set hundreds of years before the End Times, in the year 2276 IC, during a period known as The Age of Three Emperors. The Empire of Man is fragmented by civil wars, and the world faces threats from within and without, such as hordes of Beastmen, Orcs, Goblins, and the growing forces of Chaos in the north. Gameplay focuses on mass combat with units in ranked formations and flanks. Strategic positioning is crucial, as players must manoeuvre regiments of miniatures on square bases to outwit, outflank, and annihilate their opponent, utilizing a mix of infantry, cavalry, monsters, and war machines. It is a game with detailed rules and a six-sided dice system (2d6 for most rolls) that rewards tactical planning over simple individual combat.
